The iPhone 6 has 4.7 inch screen, an A8 brain, iOS 8, NFC and bigger battery. These amazing specs now mean that Apple has an iPhone that can compete with other big brands on specifications.
The iPhone 6 shows promise on being the best iPhone ever made. Spotting some similarities with the HTC One (M8), it has an all-metal back with curved edges on the front and back which is different from the 90-degree edges on the iPhone 5s. This results in the phone being super-smooth, coupled with it's glossy screen and matte back you can almost feel its sleek finish as you hold it.
The curves on this phone make it comfortable to hold despite its larger size, plus it is also slimmer with a thicknesses of only 6.9mm making it slimmer than the iPhone 5s which is 7.5mm thick.
A noticeable compromise is that the phone's camera lens protrudes from the phone’s case which will definitely not go down well with everyone. The new design also spots very distinctive light-colored lines on the top and bottom edges of its back cover and it is skeptical whether these lines appeal an aesthetic level with the only practical implication being to help boost signal strength given its back metal casing. The rubberized lines help to ensure the iPhone 6 has strong and reliable call quality.
The iPhone 6's outstanding feature has to be its 4.7in display. Apple has only ever increased its screen size on one occasion before, from 3.5 inches to 4 inches even though 4.7 inches is not that large compared to other smartphones. Not many people would consider a 4.7 inch screen large enough for a comfortable gaming or viewing experience.
The iPhone 6 has a HD screen resolution of 326ppi (pixels per inch), the same as the iPhone 5s. Apple is however quick to point out that screen resolution statistics do not tell the entire story accurately since compared to the G3 which has 534 ppi and Galaxy S5's 432ppi, there isn't much difference in screen resolution and performance and one look at the iPhone 6 can confirm this.
The screen has full HD 1080p.
The iPhone's camera has a nifty innovation called Focus Pixels which are phase detection pixels for faster contrast detection and and an efficient autofocus.
Video recording on the iPhone 6 is an enjoyable experience with HD filming at 60fps (frames per second) and an enhanced slow motion. Video quality is smooth and striking at the same time.
The iPhone 6 boasts an improved A8 processor with a 64-bit architecture and an M8 motion-co processor. The co-processor is able to detect changes in altitude thanks to its in built barometer. This new hardware means a whole range of new applications can be developed for the iPhone, most notable is the Apple's own Health app.
Apple Pay is one of the most striking features of the iPhone 6. It uses a combination of Touch ID fingerprint sensor and a NFC chip to turn the phone into a credit card.
Another great feature of the iPhone 6 is VoLTE (Voice over LTE which will enable the phones users to experience voice calls over 4G data networks. The VoLTE feature is made possible thanks to a faster LTE chip which can achieve download speeds of up to 150Mbps.
The Operating System
The iPhone 6 uses iOS 8 which has striking similarities to the iOS 7. The iOS 8 is all about customization, communication and openness.
This present benefits such as better messaging to include the ability to easily send voice notes, photos and videos.
Another iOS 8 feature is Handoff which when combined with a Mac's Yosemite software, you can easily transfer email files from the phone by simply swiping. The same thing applies to phone calls as well.
The iOS 8 also comes with iCloud Drive giving the iOS 8 document-sharing capabilities that other platforms already have. You can sync your calendar, contacts and documents across multiple devices on icloud.com.
In general, the iPhone 6 is a slim and highly attractive phone.
