About the Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Even from first view, the Note 8 really looks the part. There are sleek, sexy lines, smooth curves, a slim line profile, and that Infinity display that curves around the front of the phone leaving it almost without a bezel. The Note 8 feels robust and premium in the hand, but is lightweight due to its aluminium and glass build. It's a big phone, and you won't be using it one handed, but in this case, big really is beautiful.
Inside that beautiful exterior you're getting some awesome specs that make the Note 8 one of the most powerful phones around. There's octo core processing made up of two quad core processors (a 2.4 GHz and a 1.7 GHz model), and a massive 6 GB of RAM. That means that you get lightening speeds and instant responsiveness, not to mention superb multi tasking abilities.
This is an Android device, as are almost all Samsung phones. Out of the box you'll be running Android 7.0 Nougat, which is intuitive and immensely customisable. Given that Samsung flagships are usually first in line for updates, you can expect that Android 8.0 Oreo update in the very near future.
Performance here is absolutely second to none. There's no lag, even when multiple processes are running, and even the most demanding of users will be satisfied with the top level performance that the Note 8 gets.
With most Note devices it's the screen that is the main draw, and the Note 8 is no exception with its stunning display. You get a massive 6.3 inch screen, which gives you loads of space for typing, viewing and reading. And this is an Infinity display too, curving around the front of the phone, meaning that there's no side bezel to disturb your view.
When it comes to resolution you're getting 1440 x 2960 pixels, so about 521 PPI, which is fairly high (only a couple of high end phones get more than this). Add in the fact that this is a Super AMOLED screen and picture quality is perfect. Lines are sharp, images are clear, and colours are beautifully true.
The Note 8 has a stunning screen, and it's one that's a pleasure to look at. From gaming to videos to emails, everything looks better on this high end display.
The Camera Set
Samsung has a reputation for producing decent cameras, and the Note 8 definitely holds up to that. The front of the phone sports an 8 MP cam, which is great for selfies and video calling, but the main action is around the back.
The rear of the phone gives you a dual 12 MP, 26 mm, f/1.7 aperture camera. That dual lens means you capture more fine detail, leaving shots looking clearer than ever. You also get loads of camera features, including 2x optical zoom, dual LED flash, auto focus, simultaneous picture and video recording, HDR, and everything else you'd expect to see.
Most of us these days use our mobiles for picture taking, and the Note 8 is going to give you amazing shots. Even the pros will love photo quality here.
As a flagship phone, the Note 8 has loads of special features, but there are a few that need to be singled out. You get a big 3300 mAh battery which promises up to 22 hours of active use per charge. And when that juice does run out, you get wireless charging too.
Like most Note devices, the 8 is a stylus phone, and that stylus fits neatly into the casing so it can't be lost. The S Pen (which is what Samsung calls its stylus) is better than ever, with added precision and new features. You can now translate text, turn drawings into gifs, and write with the phone screen turned off.
You get Samsung's digital assistant, Bixby, and an added button on the side of the phone accesses Bixby automatically. Finally, there's security. You do get a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, but there's also an iris scanner, as well as facial recognition to unlock your phone.
The Bottom Line
The Note 8 is hands down one of the best mobiles on shelves. There are three available options with differing amounts of internal storage (64 GB, 128 GB, or 256 GB), but Samsung does include an SD card slot letting you add up to 256 GB of extra memory. This phone is big, it's beautiful, and it's a top class performer, so if you want the best, then check out the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
