A Bigger, More Beautiful Screen
As the name suggests, the biggest new feature Samsung have introduced this time around is the dual edge display, subverting the typical flat screen in favour of one that curves over, with the display extending all the way to the very tips. This naturally offers up the possibility for more information to be displayed at any one time, and Samsung have seized this opportunity with both hands, implementing features such as People Edge (a shortcut feature for your favourite contacts) to properly maximise the extra available space. Couple this cutting-edge (no pun intended!) technology with a huge 5.7 inch display powered by the stunningly crisp quad HD super AMOLED display at a huge 1440×2560 resolution, and the end result is a screen that will make you re-evaluate your ideas about just what mobile phone displays are capable of achieving.
Taking Your Photos to the Next Level
A gorgeous display is nothing without gorgeous photos to show off, and Samsung have well and truly taken this idea on board when implementing the S6 Edge Plus’s camera. A 16 megapixel rear-facing camera guarantees supreme quality in each and every one of your snaps, whilst the 5 megapixel front-facing camera is there to ensure your selfies are always looking their absolute best. Throw in full 1080p video recording functionality, and you have yourself a nifty little device capable of capturing those precious memories to the highest possible standards.
A Technological Tour-de-Force
As you might expect from a flagship device like the S6 Edge Plus, everything under the hood that keeps it ticking packs a serious punch. Ready for the latest version of Android Lollipop and powered by two quad core processors (1.5Ghz and 2.1Ghz respectively) running on the Exynos 7420 chipset, you can expect lightning fast performance and the ability to handle multiple tasks with consummate ease. Even more impressive, though, is the inclusion of wireless charging technology. For the first time, you’ll be able to recharge your phone’s battery (which, by the way, is capable of hitting an iPhone-slaughtering 20 hours of talktime) without the hassle of having to plug in to an external power source. The future is now.
The Physical Aspects
We’ve come to expect a certain sleekness when it comes to the physicality of the Galaxy models, and the S6 Edge Plus is no exception. At 153g, there’s enough heft there to remind you that you’re holding something without it being so bulky that you can feel it weighing you down as it sits in your pocket, as the not-inconsiderable measurements – 6.08in x 2.98in x 0.27in – balance out any risk of the device feeling like a real effort to carry around. All told, Samsung have knocked it out of the park once again – this is a real lesson in iterative design.
